Making Connections/Hands-On Activity | Exploring Writing and Math Concepts with AI Chatbot

Purpose

Demonstrate the versatility of generative AI in everyday tasks, showcasing how these tools can navigate complex challenges, and encouraging you to reflect on its potential as a modern alternative to traditional information sources.

Instructions

In this interactive activity, you have the opportunity to choose between exploring a writing concept or a math/statistics concept using an AI chatbot as your guide. The goal is for you to explain these concepts by breaking them down into simpler terms and connecting them to your field of study.

Chat:

  1. Choose one of the two concepts: Post hoc ergo propter hoc (writing) or Multiple Regression (math/stats).
  2. Initiate a chat with the AI chatbot (ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot) to discuss your chosen concept.
  3. Ask the AI chatbot any questions you have about your chosen concept, seeking clarification and deeper understanding.
  4. Connect the chosen concept to your field of study (e.g., psychology, biology, sociology) and inquire about its applications.
  5. Request the AI chatbot to provide a simplified explanation of the concept, as if explaining it to a five-year-old.

Document:

  • You can copy the text from the chat to a Word document and save it to your computer.
  • You can export the chat or print the web page as a PDF.
  • You can take screen shots or screen record the conversation.
  • You can create a link to that particular chat.

Reflect:

After engaging with the AI chatbot and gaining insights into your chosen concept, reflect on the experience. Consider how the chatbot enhanced your understanding and how you can apply this concept to your own field of study. Discuss any insights and connections you made during this activity.
