Purpose

This activity empowers you to critically evaluate AI technologies in your teaching practice, ensuring that their integration is ethically sound, equitable, and transparent, thereby enhancing the learning experience for all students.

Instructions

Inspired by Krutka, Heath and Willet’s (2020) Critical Technoethical Topics for Technology and Teacher Education, this activity is designed to help you analyze generative AI technologies and the multifaceted impact they have within and beyond the classroom setting.

  1. Select a generative AI tool of your choice. This can be a chatbot (ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, Claude) or one of the many suggested resources from the Ithaka S+R Generative AI Product Tracker.
  2. Review the questions within each category below. Research your selected tool through different lenses to analyze a technology in order to consider its potential effects on the unjust structures of school.
  3. Share your findings for each category. Link any resources you found to support your reasoning.
