Information literacy is essential in all aspects of our lives.  The academic setting provides the opportunity to engage in information literacy education, but the concepts and skills should be universally applicable, not just for the work completed in school.  Information literacy concepts addressed by this text are designed to be modified and tailored to an discipline or interest, demonstrating relevance of the knowledge and skills.
