Introduction and Objectives

Food scraps in a compost pile

Introduction

We know from our first module that composting is a sustainable waste management practice with many environmental, social, and economic benefits. But what is composting? What materials can we compost? What composting methods are available, and which one is right for me? This module will explore all of these questions and more.

Objectives

After completing this module, you will be able to:

  • Explain the composting process.
  • Identify key elements in a composting mixture
  • Classify waste materials based on how they can be processed: landfill, recycling, or compost.
  • Determine which composting method is a good fit for you.
